It's always a good day when I'm in the studio working on new designs. Here's one just off the drawing board, so to speak. I think it may be the start of a new collection!

I love traveling with scarves! Here's an example of one jacket, 4 scarves, 4 different looks - all of them elegant! It's much easier to pack additional scarves to mix up your outfits than it is to pack additional jackets and tops...Here I've shown my Eileen Fisher jacket with scarves from 4 of my collections.
Hello, World!
I thought I'd give this a try...
Yesterday, I announced that I published a new book of fine art images, "Surface Tensions". My goal is to do at least one project a year - making art keeps me inspired. Making art also keeps me grounded. And, my fine art pieces are the inspiration behind my scarf designs.
Today is National Shop Small day - the day to honor the small business owners by soliciting their shops instead of the large commercial chains. Kathy Beal Signature is a small shop - existing now, just on the internet. These scarves are not mass produced - they are designed by me and produced in small quantities.
Native Americans of the southwest have been making beads and incorporating red coral into their jewelry for over 600 years. It comes from the Mediterranean Sea and was brought to the Americas by the early Europeans. Red coral is said to protect us from illness as its deep red color represents blood, our life source.
I hope that you have a day filled with love, joy, and gratitude.
My basic wardrobe methodology is to wear a basic neutral color, black, cream, grey, etc. and then dress the outfit with accessories. It wasn't until I started designing my Kathy Beal Signature scarves that I really understood how much the right scarf can really pull an outfit together, giving it a really polished and elegant look.
Do you aspire to the Santa Fe style? Does your girlfriend or wife aspire to Santa Fe style? If so here is a perfect gift combination - Heritage Turquoise I, a luxury silk scarf from my Santa Fe Collection, paired with an incredible sterling silver and turquoise buckle designed by Mona T. Van Riper available through Beal's Cowboy Buckles.
Indian Summer II may not be the flashiest scarf in my repertoire, but it exudes elegance. It is part of my Santa Fe Collection and its design is reminiscent of a Native American Ceremonial Blanket. Its color palette of rust, gold, smokey grey and gold and the lovely drape of the crepe de chine silk, make it the perfect accent for your fall wardrobe.
This project couldn't have come together without the help of many others working tirelessly for the past six months.
First and foremost, Chaz Walter and Dragonfly Labs, the creative genius behind the web design, the logo, the product photography, and the packaging. He wanted to create a website and brand that was worthy of my scarves, and now I want to make sure my scarves are worthy of the website and brand...awesome to work with and highly recommended.
Here's a photo of Bonnie looking gorgeous in Deep Sapphire Blue on her way to the Santa Fe Opera.
Please send me a photo of yourself wearing your Kathy Beal Signature silk scarf and I'll post you to the hall of fame too!
For me, the process of designing scarves starts in the field with my camera. I shoot for form and color. Then in the studio I transform that palette into a piece of art. Then again, I further transform that piece of art into a scarf design.
Here's the progression for scarf design Celestial Solstice I and Celestial Solstice II from my Winter Gems Collection:
The seeds for this project were planted about 20 years ago when I first started hand painting on silk: I painted scarves, pillows, jackets, and wall hangings.
Here's a photo of me in 1993 - I'm in my kitchen during Santa Cruz County Open Studio, preparing to do a silk painting demonstration for the visitors.
