A few of you have asked about how I got started and what my first design was, so here is a little bit of history and a little bit about my process of creating scarf designs.
A couple of years ago, a good friend of mine had a milestone birthday coming up and I wanted to get her something really special. I knew that you could print on silk with today's ink jet printers so I had the idea to create a scarf for her. Knowing that her favorite color is just about any shade of green, I started looking through my photographs to find something that would work as the basis for the design.
My search brought me to images of Iceland - particularly the Icelandic landscape that is comprised of beautiful green moss covering volcanic ash and stone.
Then I take a "soft" photograph of the landscape, shooting for color and form:
Then I work with the above image using various techniques to create a piece of art:
Next step is to take the piece of art and create a graphic element that will work well in a scarf:
And the resulting scarf - Jade Botanicals was the beginning of my Fall Spice Collection:
Needless to say, she was thrilled, and it got me to seriously think about creating a business designing silk scarves.
